Khaleda’s health condition not ‘stable’

Shawdesh Desk:

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s health condition is not yet stable as she is staying at CCU (Coronary Care Unit) of the Evercare hospital in the capital.

“She (Khaleda Zia) is still kept in CCU as her condition is not good yet. Actually we can’t confirm about her health condition before passing 72 hours as already 48 hours have passed,” Khaleda Zia’s personal physician Dr Al Mamun told the Daily Sun at around 7:30pm on Monday.

Khaleda Zia’s medical board sat in a meeting on Monday evening to decide the next course of her treatment as three blockages were found in her artery. Of the three blockages, one has been removed through inserting stent or ring in the artery, her doctors said.

However, neither BNP nor the medical board told news media about the latest health condition and their decision about her treatment officially on Monday.

The medical board sources said Khaleda Zia’s health condition remains unstable as she is staying at the CCU of the hospital till Monday evening.

Her doctors are analysing Khaleda Zia’s health condition to take decision whether stent will be inserted in her two other blockages or it will be removed by applying medicine.

Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, a member of Khaleda Zia’s medical board, told newsmen on Sunday that three blockages were found in her heart through a coronary angiogram test on Saturday.

Khaleda suffered a heart attack early Saturday due to some 95 percent blockage in her left artery, he said adding “A stent has been placed in her artery by removing the blockage. She has been kept at CCU (Coronary Care Unit) of the hospital under close observation.”

Dr Zahid said doctors will take proper measures regarding other blockages after observing her condition as she has some other health complications like chronic kidney and liver problems.

Mentioning that application of the medicines required to remove the two other blockages may further damage her kidneys, he said the  doctors will take decision on the blockages based on her latest health condition.

Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital in the early hours of Saturday as she suddenly fell ill. A stent was inserted in her artery in the afternoon after carrying out an angiogram in her heart as she suffered a mild heart attack.
